Week 2 Recap: Overlee vs McLean

This past weekend, the Overlee Flying Fish traveled to McLean Swim and Tennis club for the second meet of the summer season. Heading into the meet, we predicted a 70 point victory for Overlee based on depth of swimmers; however, those expectations were vastly outperformed. Overlee picked up points they were not seeded to win throughout the morning, securing the victory before the relay portion of the meet. In the end, Overlee defeated McLean 256-164! In every age group, swimmers in all three lanes looked to be in much better condition and race ready. When there was a swimmer in a tight race, it felt as though each swim was falling our way, as the kids in the orange caps consistently out touched the competitor in the lane next to them. The 11-12 age group, which looked to have the toughest day across the board coming into the meet, managed to come up with big swims in both the boys and girls events, which added to the point spread, but more importantly provided a surge in momentum, which the older swimmers absolutely fed off of. With family and friends in town for Independence Day weekend, the Boosters had plenty to cheer about–see a few of the race videos from the meet below!

8-Under 25 Free: Moira Kinsella and Isabella Eisenberg start the meet off strong picking up first and second!

11-12 Boys 50 Free: Luke Aslaksen and Christopher Kinsella step up to grab first and second!

13-14 Girls 50 Free: Alice Bruce pulls of an impressive first place from lane 2 against some tough competition!

9-10 Boys 50 Breaststroke: Evan Ingraham convincingly takes first, with Rory McNamara and Matthew Bailey narrowly getting edged out of second, but still there to get third and fourth!

Sophia Grabman holds off a crew of tough McLean Breaststrokers to win by one tenth!

15-18 Boys 50 Breaststroke: Paul Kinsella just gets touched out to get second by two hundredths of a second, with Sam Ellison there to pick up third!

15-18 Girls 50 Breaststroke: Kayle Park handedly wins first place!

9-10 25 Fly: Matthew Aslaksen sneaks out the win by less than two tenths, with Rory McNamara coming up with the third place!
